SUBCommittee

Vegetation Management

Areas of Focus

The Vegetation Management Subcommittee exists to advance utility-wide strategies that promote safe, reliable, and cost-effective vegetation management. In response to increasing environmental stressors, aging infrastructure, and heightened wildfire risk, utilities must modernize their approach through data-informed, risk-based practices. This subcommittee serves as a collaborative forum to share strategies, technologies, and policy innovations that support grid resilience, reliability, and environmental stewardship.

The subcommittee will convene for two in-person meetings and two virtual sessions each year. Anticipated activities include:

  • Utility Use Cases and Reference Architectures (e.g., substation connectivity, AMI backhaul)
  • Vendor-neutral guidance documents
  • Industry benchmarking surveys
  • White papers and strategic briefs on emerging technologies
  • Facilitated knowledge exchanges and case study webinars

Members include vegetation management professionals, utility operations leaders, forestry experts, environmental planners, data analysts, and risk mitigation teams. Multiple representatives per company are encouraged to ensure active participation across specialized working groups. Membership is open to AEIC member companies and select invited collaborators.
